Wise Guides Best Reasons To Visit Jackson Hole In The Spring
Spring is peeking around the corner, and with what an epic winter we’ve had, we are excited for the change of seasons! During spring in Jackson Hole, the town is a bit quieter, the animals are starting to become more active, and there are lots of deals to be had around town. Before we know it, summer will be upon us, so why not get a little adventure in while the snow melts? Plus, those bluebird skies make for some amazing photo backdrops.
5 Reasons You Should Visit Jackson In The Spring
Fat Tire Biking
Perfect for muddy and snowy springs, this sport couples adventure with a good workout and amazing vistas. Fat tire biking has gained popularity in the last few years, and there are now hundreds of “groomed” trails around the Jackson area to explore.
The National Parks Open
In perfect time to catch animals coming out of hibernation, both Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks open in early May. They are both great day trips from our basecamp! You’ll want to pack a picnic lunch as services can be limited in early season, but it’s an amazing time of year to see wildlife before the weather warms up. Grand Teton National Park is only 5 miles from MM, and Yellowstone National Park is just a little over an hour’s drive north.

Wildlife Tours & Viewing
Wildlife “wakes up” (literally and figuratively) this time of year, after a nice long winter. Spring brings calving for the deer, elk and moose, as well as migration of herds back to habitats (hence the Elkfest in May). Everyone’s favorite, the bears, are more active as they get moving from winter hibernation so your chance of spotting one is good. Book a tour or head out with a map and some recommendations from our front desk wise guides!

Road Biking
Jackson is a bike friendly community, and we have the pathways to prove it. There are stunning vistas everywhere you look, and gliding along the base of the Tetons is something you’ll never forget! Whether you rent a bike from one of our great local bike shops, or you bring your own, spring is a great time to get on the road. Here are some of the Best Biking Trails Around Jackson (and beyond)!
Local Events
Spring kicks off some of our favorite events around town, not to mention farmers markets, live music & more. You won’t want to miss:
Old West Days – May 16 – 26, 2025
Celebration of Western culture with a parade, family activities, rodeo, live music, local beer, and more.
Jackson Hole Rodeo – May through September
The Rodeo has been a part of Jackson Hole’s cowboy culture since the first settlers arrived over 100 years ago. Your Jackson Hole vacation would not be complete without experiencing the legendary Jackson Hole Rodeo.
Elkfest – May 17, 2025
Every spring, thousands of elk wintering on the National Elk Refuge lose their antlers before they migrate to their summer range. The Boy Scouts assist the Refuge with harvesting the shed antlers and auction them to bidders from around the world who make furniture, wall decorations, jewelry and food products from them. This annual event, which includes the High Noon Chili Cook-Off and the Mountain Man Rendezvous kick-off, supports the National Elk Refuge with a large portion of auction proceeds going back to habitat enhancement projects on the Refuge.
Million Dollar Music Festival – May 25, 2025
Midland will make a triumphant return to the Million Dollar Music Fest and the town of their roots. The multi-platinum, GRAMMY-nominated trio will bring their neotraditional blend of toe-tapping honkytonk and genre-bending country to Town Square for their first Jackson Hole appearance in three years. Making his Jackson Hole debut, John Michael Montgomery, another multi-platinum recording artist, with seven Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music awards, will bring his nineteen Top-5 hits, including seven #1’s to the Million Dollar Music Fest stage as part of his Road to Home Farewell Tour. Opening the show, fresh off her own sold-out headlining tour of Canada will be Tenille Townes, who made her Jackson debut at the 2024 Cowgirls at The Cowboy. Winner of two ACM awards and an astounding 15 Canadian Country Music Association Awards (including five times as Female Artist of the Year and one Entertainer of the Year), Townes will bring her country rock style that owes as much to Janis Joplin as Miranda Lambert. Cowboy Bar darling, Ashley Wineland will perform immediately following the show at the after-party inside The Cowboy Bar, beginning at 9 pm.
Enjoy this free, all-ages, big-stage concert on the Jackson Hole Town Square from 4 – 10pm.
