So What’s the Difference Between Jackson & Jackson Hole?

Is MMJH located in “Jackson” or “Jackson Hole”? In short, the answer is both! If you find yourself confused between the two names— you’re not alone. While they are often used interchangeably, there is a distinction between the two.

In the 1800s, fur trappers used the term “hole” to describe a valley surrounded by mountains. Jackson Hole is the name of the entire 60-mile-long valley in northwest Wyoming, located beside the Teton Range. It includes several towns like Teton Village, Wilson, Moose, and Jackson. “Jackson” is the name of the town of Jackson, WY – the largest town within the Jackson Hole Valley.

Teton Village

Teton Village, about 12 miles from Jackson and just 1 mile from Grand Teton National Park, is home to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR), a world-famous ski destination. You may be familiar with JHMR’s aerial tram, which climbs over 4,000 feet to the summit and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. Teton Village hosts events and concerts year-round, such as the Grand Teton Music Festival and the Tram Dock Après Series. It is a great place to shop, dine, and explore the great outdoors.

Wilson & Moose

Wilson and Moose are two smaller towns in Jackson Hole, connected by Moose-Wilson Road. This scenic drive is known for its frequent wildlife sightings, including moose, bears, and elk, as well as its gorgeous views of the Teton range. In Moose, you’ll find Mormon Row, a historic district dating back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. With its iconic old barns and gorgeous mountain backdrop, Mormon Row is one of the most photographed locations in Jackson Hole. Moose is also home to a Grand Teton National Park entrance, making it a key access point for park visitors.

Jackson

MMJH is located in the town of Jackson at the southern end of the valley. It is the largest and best-known community in Jackson Hole, famous for its lively downtown area and proximity to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Mountain Modern Jackson Hole is located in the heart of Jackson, just steps away from the famous antler arches and only a short drive from endless outdoor adventure.
