The Best Jackson Hole Dog-Friendly Hike
Jackson Hole has many awesome pet-friendly trails, but if you’re looking for one that has a variety of paths, beautiful views, and isn’t too difficult for your four-legged friend to hike, the Jackson Peak Trail is for you. It’s just a short drive from town and isn’t too crowded in the summer. Jackson Peak Trail is also the only Jackson Hole pet-friendly trail that takes you past Goodwin Lake, which is a perfect spot for your pet to cool off.
Hike the Jackson Peak Trail in Jackson Hole
We’ve hiked some awesome trails here in Jackson Hole, but none is better suited to bringing your furry friend than the Jackson Peak Trail. Here’s what you need to know:
How long is the trail?
The Jackson Peak Trail is approximately 10.3 miles long, out and back.
Is the Jackson Peak Trail difficult to hike?
The trail itself starts at a slow incline, wraps around Goodwin Lake, and ends at the summit of Jackson Peak. Overall you’ll be hiking upwards of 2,641 feet in elevation, and most hikers would rate this hike as “moderate”.
Does the Jackson Peak Trail Loop Around?
This Jackson Hole pet-friendly hike is not a loop, but it does take you along a small valley, around Goodwin Lake, and up to the summit of Jackson Peak.
What can you see from Jackson Peak summit?
The views at the end of this trail are spectacular! You’ll get a good view of the Grand Tetons, Gros Ventre Wilderness area, and the Snake River Wilderness area.

Is there another hike that might be a little easier?
The Cache Creek area is a great option that offers an alternative for people looking to exercise their dogs (and themselves!) without the elevation change. It’s close to downtown so accessing it is also easy from MM. We also love Snow King, which is right in town and offers a good sweat as you trek up the mountain. But be sure to bring sunscreen & water, it’s a sunny one!
**Note that you may need a 4×4 vehicle to get all the way to the trailhead, depending on conditions.
